The young hatchlings have a tendency to jump into their water bowl – perhaps missing the warmth of being in the embryonic fluid when they were still inside the egg shells? One must place pebbles in their water bowl so they don’t accidentally drown. Although the “missing mommy’s womb” is the “official” explanation, I have my doubts as careful observation showed me that new hatchlings love to jump into anything: water bowls, sand bowls (as grits), food bowls…. Perhaps that’s the way they learn about their new world – by jumping into “things”. Such thoughts can not appear if I simply followed “conventional wisdom” unquestioningly. All things, life events and experiences, including minute ones like watching chick hatchlings at play, allow creative, independent thoughts to appear, if one is free enough from the influence of the crowd.
